Silicon carbide (SiC) is a man-made mineral with high hardness and excellent thermal and electrical conductivity (Mohs hardness 9.4 / Knoop hardness 2600).
It exhibits high thermal conductivity and strength at high temperatures (at 1000°C, SiC's strength is 7.5 times that of Al₂O₃). SiC has an elastic modulus of 410 GPa, its strength does not decrease below 1600°C, and it does not melt under normal pressure but decomposes at 2700°C.
